Bonnie McKee has released her new single American Girl as a free download via her official site. She has also released a video for the track similar to the viral videos for Carly Rae Jepsen’s Call Me Maybe. The video features cameos from tonnes of singers and celebrities including Katy Perry, Ke$ha, Adam Lambert, Macklemore and Carly Rae Jepsen herself.

Bonnie, whose written for most of the artists in the video, might finally get the recognition she deserves with such a huge track like American Girl. It’s a Teenage Dream style anthem with a massive chorus, full of catchy melodies and hooks.

However, it’s a bit sad that most people will think Bonnie’s copying the sound of Katy Perry, Ke$ha, etc. when she’s behind a lot of their biggest hits. Hopefully with American Girl being so catchy, the comparisons might get overlooked.

Carly Rae Jepsen – “Take A Picture” New Single

tapCarly Rae Jepsen performed her new single Take A Picture on American Idol last night. The lyrics of the song were voted for by fans as part of Coca-Cola’s Perfect Harmony campaign.

Take A Picture is being released during the campaign for Tonight I’m Getting Over You but it isn’t really an issue since the latter is struggling to make an impact. Take A Picture is a very light-hearted, electro pop song with not much to it except the chorus is quite catchy. The “tonight” ad-libs towards the end remind me of Enrique Iglesias’ Escape.

For something voted by fans, the lyrics aren’t as bad as they could’ve been. However, I can’t see this single fairing well if even the amazing Tonight I’m Getting Over You is barely doing anything.

Owl City feat. Carly Rae Jepsen – “Good Time” Video

The music video for Owl City’s collaboration with Carly Rae Jepsen on his new single Good Time has premiered on VEVO. The video is very basic, doing exactly what the song is about; just having a good time at a party.

Following Call Me Maybe, Good Time is one of the catchiest, most infectious songs of the year. Although it’s not nearly as good as Call Me Maybe.

Good Time is already doing considerably well in the U.S., charting at number 17 on the Billboard Hot 100. I’m still looking forward to Carly’s own upcoming single, Curiosity.

Good Time is out on August 12th in the UK.
