Katy Perry has released her second single Bon Appétit from her upcoming KP4. Bon Appétit is produced by Max Martin and features Migos. It’s probably the most urban track Katy has ever done but at the same time the production style is consistent with Chained To The Rhythm. It doesn’t sound like a Katy Perry song and doesn’t sound like a massive hit but it’s a good album track. Luckily a no-rap version is coming because the Migos feature is unnecessary.

Kygo has released First Time featuring Ellie Goulding. It’s a basic EDM track but so catchy you can’t help but like it. It’s no It Ain’t Me but could end up being a minor hit.

The Vamps have released the second single from their upcoming third album called Middle Of The Night. The Ed Drewett track is produced by Martin Jensen and continues on from the EDM/dubstep sound of their last single All Night. It seems The Vamps (or their label) are going the Maroon 5/OneRepublic route of releasing EDM tracks to score hits but forgetting that they’re supposed to be a band. As long as the music is as good as this though…

OneRepublic have released a new single called No Vacancy. Ryan Tedder explained the release on OneRepublic’s Facebook. The band plan to release new music at it’s made every few weeks instead of releasing music in the format of an album. No Vacancy is an EDM track originally intended for Selena Gomez but Ryan loved the track so much he kept it for OneRepublic. It’s produced by Stargate and it’s a lot better than most of Oh My My. It could potentially be huge.

Hailee Steinfeld has release Most Girls – another EDM Ryan Tedder track. Its lyrics let it down but it’s still a catchy song. It’s no Starving though.

Little Mix have released an acoustic version of No More Sad Songs – the third single to be taken from Glory Days. The girls sound incredible on it and Jesy’s middle 8 is back.

Ellie Goulding – “Anything Could Happen”

Ellie Goulding’s first single Anything Could Happen, from her second album Halcyon, premiered today on BBC Radio One.
Anything Could Happen is a synth-pop song, solely written by Ellie. It’s in a similar vein to her previous album Lights, but shows some progression to her sound. While there’s no real chorus, the phrase “anything could happen” is repeated throughout the song. It would really benefit from a proper chorus because it falls short as it is. It’s not the most instant catchy song like Starry Eyed, but might be interesting enough to pull off a hit.

Ellie Goulding – “The Writer” Video Premiere

The video for Ellie Goulding’s fourth single, The Writer, from her debut album, Lights, premiered at the weekend. The Writer is one of the best songs on Ellie’s album and more deserving of a single release than previous singles Guns And Horses and Under The Sheets. However, as a fourth single it may struggle to become the hit it deserves to be.
The video is very simple but allows the song to be fully appreciated by not distracting from it. There’s no plot but it shows Ellie walking through a field and walking around a lighthouse while singing the song.
The Writer will be released on August 9th through Polydor Records.
Diana Vickers Album Sampler Review

Diana Vickers’ debut album has been much anticipated since she finished The X Factor in 4th place in 2008. This week her album tracklist was released via her official website along with the album title Songs From The Tainted Cherry Tree. Today the album sampler for Songs From The Tainted Cherry Tree leaked onto the internet two months in advance of the scheduled release date.
The sampler includes the following five tracks:
01. Once – The Cathy Dennis and Eg White penned debut single which puts everything people loved about Diana on The X Factor into its 3 minutes, 12 seconds while also defining her sound as a artist. While Once is a debut single, Diana’s unique quirky vocal makes her recognisable and it seems like you are listening to an established artist rather than a new one.
02. Remake Me And You – A Diana co-write with Brit Award winner Ellie Goulding and Guy Sigsworth which sounds a bit Alphabeat-esque. It’s very repetitive and doesn’t seem to reach where it’s trying to go but instead sounds like it’s going around in circles.
03. The Boy Who Murdered Love – Another Diana co-write with Chris Braide. The verses sound like a good Gwen Stefani ballad while the chorus escalates into another one-word repeating spree similar to Once but with a darker, melancholic melody.
04. My Hip – A Harmony Boucher and Tobias Karlsson track. After a few listens, My Hip is definitely the weakest song on the sampler but it’s still listenable. It just seems to plod along with nothing really interesting about it. The production is nice but the song lacks a stronger melody.
05. Put It Back Together Again – A Nerina Pallot track and the best song on the sampler. It’s very melancholic and atmospheric. It’s by far Diana’s best vocal to date. It builds like a big Snow Patrol ballad. The only thing to fault with this track is the mouthful in the chorus when Diana tries to squeeze “put it back together again” into such a small time frame.
Overall, the album is shaping up to be quite a strong debut and possibly the best debut to come from an ex-X Factor contestant yet. It proves that spending time to develop a sound instead of rush-releasing an album off the back of The X Factor pays off as Diana is demonstrating with this album.
Songs From The Tainted Cherry Tree is set for release on April 26th through RCA Records.
