Justin Bieber – “Boyfriend”

My hate for Justin Bieber might be about to change. His new single Boyfriend, produced by Mike Posner, was released today and it’s surprisingly good. My iTunes now consists of two Justin Bieber songs, the other being Baby.

The sound of Boyfriend is really similar to a typical Justin Timberlake song except Justin Bieber can’t pull off the talking bits too well. The talking bits are probably the only thing I don’t like about Boyfriend. The production is a bit reminiscent of Timbaland’s work with Justin Timberlake which isn’t a bad thing. Bieber’s got a big hit on his hands because after the first listen, it’s ridiculously catchy and memorable.

If the rest of Justin’s upcoming album is anywhere near as good as Boyfriend, I’ll be interested to hear it, which is something I never thought I’d want to hear.

Boyfriend is out now on the US iTunes.

“If We Ever Meet Again” Video Premier

The video for Timbaland’s second international single If We Ever Meet Again from Shock Value 2 featuring Katy Perry premiered today. The storyline is based on a museum burglary in which Timbaland and Katy play undercover detectives. The other shots in the video show Timbaland and Katy dancing around together to the track.

Surprisingly, they left in the interlude at the end of the video which probably should have been cut but seems to be there only to tie up the story.

Katy Perry has been busy in the studio since finishing The Hello Katy Tour last year. Since returning to the studio, she has been working with Greg Wells (Fingerprints and Ur So Gay), Timbaland (If We Ever Meet Again), The-Dream and Tricky Stewart who she just finished up some studio sessions with. Last Tuesday she went back into the studio with Dr. Luke (Hot ‘n’ Cold and I Kissed A Girl).

Dr. Luke told Music Mix on Wednesday:

I’m working on Katy Perry’s record right now. Literally, yesterday was our first day, but it was amazing. I’m really proud of the work we already did. You know, of my songs that I’ve done, Hot ‘n’ Cold was one of my favorite ones. It’s just fun. I like making songs where you can make people have a good time and have joy. That’s like the best thing you can possibly do, you know?

According to some sources Katy was also in the studio with Calvin Harris. The album, the follow up to 2008’s One of The Boys, is set for release sometime this year.

We blogged about this song few weeks ago just after the release of Timbaland’s third album Shock Value 2. Timbaland’s duet with Katy Perry, If We Ever Meet Again, is now set for a single release. The video was shot in December and the single is pencilled in for a February 15th release in the UK.

Timbaland said in a recent interview with MTV:

When I did this song, I was in love with this record called … you’re gonna be surprised. The record didn’t have anything to do with [If We Ever Meet Again], but when I heard I Gotta Feeling, I said, “I want a record just like that on my album”. I said, “I gotta do me a I Gotta Feeling record”. Me and one of my producers, Jim Beanz, we came up with this concept. I said, [I Gotta Feeling] is happy, but I like it.’ It gives a good feeling.

Get ready to hear If We Ever Meet Again played to death for months in every club following its February 15th release.

Nelly Furtado Announces New Album

Nelly Furtado has announced her new English album will be released on May 25th 2010 via her Twitter.

Her follow up to 2006’s Loose sees her collaborating again with Timbaland as well as Ryan Tedder and Salaam Remi.

Nelly also compared the album to her debut Whoa, Nelly!, saying:

I think just generally it’s still going to be pop but I want it to have a more light energy. Sort of like my first album, but not sonically, more in a spiritual sense… more like my first album.

I don’t know if it’s going to be the same sound [as Loose] but I have worked a little bit with Timbaland who produced that album so it might have some of the same fun and energy, but not like exactly the same.

If there are a few Say It Right, Maneater and Promiscuous moments on there, this could be a really solid album with the addition of Tedder and Remi for variety.
